Kalimat Aktif adalah adalah kalimat yang subject-nya berbuat sesuatu atau melakukan suatu pekerjaan. Dalam bahasa indonesia ciri-ciri kalimat aktif adalah kata kerjanya selalu berawalan “me-“ dan beberapa lagi memiliki awalan “ber-“.

Bentuk aktif adalah orang, binatang, atau benda yang ditunjukan oleh subjek dikatakan melakukan sesuatu pada yang  lain.

Contoh Kalimat Aktif

Karim killed a tiger

(Karim membunuh seekor harimau)

Kalimat Pasif adalah kalimat yang subject-nya dikenai suatu pekerjaan atau menderita suatu. Dengan kata lain subject kalimat tersebut menjadi sasaran kegiatan yang dinyatakan oleh kata kerja. Dalam bahasa indonesia ciri-ciri kalimat pasif adalah kata kerjanya yang berawalan dengan “di-“ dan beberapa lagi memiliki awalan “ter-“ (tergantung pada konteks kalimat).

Bentuk dari kalimat pasif adalah : TO BE / BE + VERB 3
 Dalam bentuk kalimat pasif, biasanya diikuti dengan frase “by”.

Tina is helped by Jane. 

(Tina ditolong oleh Jane)

Pada kalimat pasif, Object dari kalimat aktif (Tina) berubah menjadi Subject.

Cara Merubah Kalimat Aktif Menjadi Kalimat Pasif

Simple Future	S + will/(is/am/are+going to) + Verb 1 + O They will buy a book tomorrow	S + shall/will + be + Past Participle   A book will be bought tomorrow
Present Continuous	S + am/is/are + V-ing+ O They are buying a book	S + am/is/are +being + Past Participle   A book is being bought
Past Continuous	S + was/were + V-ing + O They were buying a book	S + was/were +being + Past Participle  A book was being bought
Present Perfect	S + has/have +Verb 3 + O They have bought a book	S + has/have +been + Past Participle  A book has been bought
Past Perfect	S + had + Verb 3 + O They had bought a book	S + had + been + Past Participle   A book had been bought
Future Perfect	S + shall/will +have + Verb 3 + O They will have bought a book	S + shall/will + have +being + Past Participle  A book will have been bought
